Hi guys, here is a project that I finished just a few day
ago. We wanted to attach some 80mm Lewmar blocks for a main sheet system. The
problem is that the pad eye on the deck is too small to fit any sort to shackle
thru. The solution was to make up a dyneema loop that was just the right size.
I passed the loop thru the pad eye. Then I took apart the block and removed the
swivel pin. Next I reassembled the block with the dyneema loop inside. I was
vary impressed with how well this worked and how nice the blocks sit. There is
no worry about strength. Because there the loop is continually 2 strands the whole
way round. We can multiply the stealth of the 1/8 Amsteel 1,100kg by 2 giving
up 2,200kg. Then because of the way it goes through the eye we multiply by 4 so
we end up with 8,800kg more than enough for a 40 ft cussing boat. The boats 9mm
WARPSPEED main sheet is only good for 4,400kg
